Goal: Speedgrader is one of Canvas' most popular features. However, wasn't without some serious drawbacks.

• No way to navigate to other assignments/courses.
• Layout not easily expandable to additional admin features.
• Poor layout for viewing/scoring with rubrics.
• New feature of banked comments needed.

Canvas: Student Course Simplified Experience

Goal: Canvas is a robust product. This can be sometimes overwhelming for both the teacher and the student. This is a re-imaging of a Canvas course with a "Simple Course" option. Teachers could opt in for a simplified user experience. We were hoping to solve for students the following:

• I have trouble finding what I should do next.
• I don't get much of a sense accomplishment when I complete an assignment.
• I would really like an easier way for me to make inline notes in my course.
• Would be great if there was a quick and easy way to communicate with my Teacher.

Canvas: Design System

Goal: Create consistent interactive elements, patterns, icons and illustrations across Canvas related products in the Instructure family.

My Roles

• Group leader of blended team of UX Designers, QA and Front End Engineering for documenting Design System.
• Participating in naming conventions and documentation of correct usage of Components in UX Design.
• Conducting weekly design sync meetings for new components and patterns.
• Creating and maintenance of Sketch and later Figma Design Libraries for team usage.
• Creating companion theme illustrations for empty states, errors, instructions and various other applications.
• Working with front end developers on implementation of components to React Library.
